The reasoning behind the title for my blog is rather obscure. I stumbled upon, or perhaps 'scrabbled' through imaginary mazes of cross-sections, and synapse points of vocabulary in my brain for the purpose of expressing a well developed tag to represent an artistic collection I developed over the past year. Alas I never showcased my artwork, or at least not at present, but I liked the word so much that I decided to pull it out of last year's suitcase and try it on for size.
"Conjextures" is a combination of several words. Inspired by my idol professor of the University I was attending last year, Dr. Larry Lavender, the term was wraught from the thrungs of analyzing motives, interpretations, and definitions for creativity in his class "Creativity and Fine Art." The thinking his class initiated within me on matters of creativity collided with my self-analytical processes to interpret my personal creations and to define the stage at which I was at in my own artistic journey. This home-cooked or rather home-stewed word is a cut and paste prodigy of the terms, textures, context, and conjecture.
TEXTURE-
(definition below)
I was initially attracted to this word because of my individual fascination for working with various physical materials, such as glass, wood, metal, fabrics etc. and often compiling them in obscure combinations.
I feel that it's use of prose is also pertinent in observing society, and ideas and the layering thereof and is thus applicable to my blog as I attempt to express my view of whatever the weekly muze of my mind might be when I'm digesting the tangled web of my thoughts on this blog.
CONTEXT-
(definition below)
So much of art is bound by context or often dictates a new perspective of context for items which it showcases.
For my blog this term holds significance for placing ideas in context of other relevant mind-scapes through the use of vocabulary.
CONJECTURE-
(definition below)
Ahhh my favorite ingredient of this mish-mosh recipe.
Some definitions for this word include paraphrased formulations for an incomplete idea, speculation, or an unfinished project, as well as faint expresions or suggestions of an image. This is a perfect word to explain a lot of artistic paraphernalia eh?
A lot of my own artistic endeavors were birthed out of curiosities of how to manage specific mediums or were inspired to reach conclusions to personal questions rolling around in my brain. I don't know if my artwork ever brought any real relief from my questions or any sort of answers, but in the end my works would be "faint representations" of the original idea I was intending to express. Not to mention that the creative chaos did provide an outlet for my acute restlessness upon the matters I was trying to conquer.
I think of all of these foundations in my formulated word, conjecture applies to my blog the best. Who knows if any of my interpretations for whatever I spotlight on my blog will have any true weight in reality. Whatever I write is simply my opinion and is therefore a conjecture of many possibilities; a random view that is possibly unsupported. The beauty of the term is that ideas need no foundation and are freed from quantitative certainty. Communicators are freed to shoot their schematics into thin air with no judgement. Heck aren't all our beliefs merely intimations at large anyway?
So, (long exhale) there are my foundations for the random title of my blog. I hope it satiates your curiosity if you had any. My intention in creating this blog is to tentatively provide a space to process some of the topics that my mind encounters, which need more analyzation than can be provided by simply dwelling on them for a few moments over a cup of coffee and the breeze.
I cannot fortell in certainty what I all I will write about, but knowing myself, topics may delve into art forms I am processing, specific works I dwell upon, or even meander into spiritual matters. If you want to partake or join the conversation be my guest. Glean what you like and pleeeeeeze add your two cents worth to the the dialogue of my mind!
